Thiele's reagent

Thiele's reagent is a solution of sodium phosphinate with which detection reactions of selenium can be carried out. The solution of sodium phosphinate causes selenium to precipitate from solutions containing selenate and selenite .

In addition, in some cases, acetic acid to which a small amount of concentrated sulfuric acid has been added is called Thiele's reagent. This can be used for acetylation reactions .

Thiele's reagent is named after the German chemist Johannes Thiele (1865–1918).
