Thierry Uvenard (born March 24, 1964 in Le Havre ) is a former French football player and later coach .

Player career

Uvenard grew up in Le Havre, where he started playing football at a small club called Cheminot when he was ten . From there he moved to the youth department of Le Havre AC in 1978 at the age of 14 . He had to wait until 1987 to be accepted into the first division squad at the age of 23. Even if it took him so long to jump into the first team, he became a regular player, but at the same time suffered the first decline of his career in 1988. Although he was initially able to keep his position in the team in the second division, his club failed to rise again. Because he was struggling with injuries, he came on much less frequent missions in the following seasons, but was able to celebrate the rise in 1991. Subsequently, Uvenard was first in a good season and then in a year in the relegation battle again.

From 1993 he was no longer represented in the circle of regular players, especially under coach Guy David , and only appeared irregularly for the first division club, to which he nevertheless remained loyal. After he had not made more than four games in the 1997/98 season, he ended in 1998 at the age of 34 a career that he had played exclusively at Le Havre and in the course of which he played 150 first division games with eight goals and 71 second division games with four Fools came.

Coaching career

After his 20 years as a player at Le Havre AC, Uvenard continued his career there immediately after the end of his active career and was employed as a coach for the C youth and promoted to assistant coach of the first team in the same year. He gave up this post in the now second-rate selection in 2004 to return to the youth sector. As a replacement for Philippe Hinschberger , he returned in April 2005 as head coach for the first team and saved the club from falling into the third division at the end of the 2004/05 season. The desired promotion to the top French league, however, he himself did not succeed, so he resigned his office in 2007 and instead became sports director. A year later, he followed the call of his former teammate Alain Casanova and became assistant coach at Toulouse FC at his side , turning his back on Le Havre after a total of 30 years. He performed his function in Toulouse until he and Casanova were fired in March 2015.

Engagement in extreme sports

In addition to his career as a footballer, Uvenard also worked as a marathon runner and also took part in 24-hour runs . At an event in 2008, at the age of 44, he ran a distance of 165 kilometers in one day.
