Thietmar (Lausitz)

Thietmar (* around 990 ; † January 10, 1030 ) had been Margrave of Lusatia and Count in Swabia and Northern Thuringia since 1015 .

Life

Thietmar, who in the older literature is referred to as Thietmar ( II. ) In relation to his grandfather, Thietmar I, Margrave of Meißen, Merseburg and Nordmark , came from the Billunger family . His grandfather of the same name, Thietmar, was the first husband of Suanhilde, a daughter of Duke Hermann Billung . He himself was the son of Geros and his wife Adelheid.

After his death in the Polish campaign in 1015 he became Margrave of the Lausitz region. He lost large parts of it to Poland after the Peace of Bautzen in 1018. From 1015 he also fought against the claims of Count Siegfried, the son of Hodos , but was able to assert himself with the help of Emperor Heinrich II . He promoted the first German settlements in Lusatia . The Mark Lausitz was only recaptured by his son Hodo after his death. After his death, the family died out. Margrave Thietmar was buried in the Helmarshausen monastery.

His only son Hodo II succeeded him in office . His daughter Oda was first married to Wilhelm III. married from Weimar , the second to Dedo II von Wettin , who became Margrave of Lusatia in 1046 as Dedo I.
