review

Stephen Cook comes to a positive assessment of the album for AllMusic : “The early release of 1955 [sic] shows the trio with the usual mix of originals and standards. The highlights are Stella by Starlight and You and the Night and the Music as well as the breakneck cover of Charlie Parker's Steeplechase . [...] This Hampton Hawes recording [...] certainly provides good company for all other top jazz -Piano Trio records in your collection. "
