Chuck Thompson
Chuck Thompson (* as Charles Edmund Thompson at 4. June 1926 in New York City ) is an American jazz - drummer of bebop .
Chuck Thompson became a professional musician in 1943 and worked for Cee Pee Johnson in California in 1946 . In the same year he played with Charlie Parker ( Yardbird in Lotusland , Spotlite), Howard McGhee , Miles Davis and Joe Albany . Thompson then worked freelance , mostly in the Los Angeles area . After 1947 he played with Benny Carter , Dexter Gordon , Wardell Gray , Charles Mingus , in 1949 in the trio of Erroll Garner . In 1954 he recorded with Barney Kessel and in 1956 with Sonny Criss . He gained greater fame in 1955/56 through his membership in the Hampton Hawes trio . After that, Chuck Thompson worked mostly with local groups in the San Francisco Bay Aera.
Chuck Thompson is not to be confused with the Bebop - pianist Charles Thompson , who also played with Charlie Parker.
