This Will Destroy You (TWDY) is a post-rock band from San Marcos , Texas . Her style is initially characterized by mostly calm, harmonious and wide-ranging instrumental arrangements. In the course of the respective title, the compositions are slowly increased and clearly increase in complexity, dissonance and hardness. Comparable artists are Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor .
history
The band was formed in 2005 and released their first EP with Young Mountain in 2006 . Originally planned as a demo recording for sale on live shows, it caught the attention of the Magic Bullet Records record label , which it eventually published, accompanied by positive reviews.
The self-titled debut album This Will Destroy You was released on January 29, 2008. A year later, the split EP Field Studies was published, on which in addition to the two own titles Brutalism and the Worship of the Machine and Freedom Blade also songs by the band Lymbyc Systym are located. In 2010 a second EP was released under the title Moving on the Edges of Things . The recordings of the following second studio album Tunnel Blanket were completed on February 12, 2010, according to the band. The album was released on May 9, 2011 in Europe on Monotreme Records , and on May 10, 2011 in the rest of the world under the two labels Suicide Squeeze Records and Hobbledehoy Record Co (Australia and New Zealand).
On October 29, 2013 This Will Destroy You released their first live album Live in Reykjavik, Iceland , which was recorded in the Icelandic capital Reykjavík .
After the band announced their third album Another Language on June 23, 2014 , along with the release of the single Dustism , it was released on September 12 of the same year via Suicide Squeeze Records. The second single from Another Language was Invitation . From September 8, 2014, the album was already available as a stream on Pitchfork .
The track There are Some Remedies Worse than the Disease can be heard in the trailer for the film The Abduction of the U-Bahn Pelham 123 (2009).
Burial on the Presidio Banks from the self-titled album accompanies the last scene of CSI: Miami - Episode No. 160 Trouble in the luggage .
The Mighty Rio Grande can be heard in the trailer for the film Moneyball (2011) and in several places in the film itself.
Villa Del Refugio was part of a scene in the 2013 film released World War Z .
Killed the Lord Left for the New World from the album Tunnel Blanket accompanies the credits of the Doc film Pastor (2014).
On June 1, 2016, the band announced the departure of Alex Bhore and Donovan Jones. Until August 2020, the band consisted of only two members.
