The Thomas-Mann-Gymnasium Stutensee is part of the school center of the large district town of Stutensee , north of Karlsruhe in Baden-Württemberg .

Together with the Erich-Kästner-Realschule, the grammar school forms a two-story complex with a new building. Administration and staff of the two schools are separate. Only the playground and lounge area are shared. In connection with the conversion of the mathematical-scientific and modern-language Thomas-Mann-Gymnasium from the school year 2006/2007 to a scientific-technological or linguistic grammar school, a cafeteria was built in front of the school in 2006 .

history

When the communities of Friedrichstal, Blankenloch and Spöck (now part of the district town of Stutensee ) were still independent in 1966 , it was decided to build two grammar schools and a secondary school, for which the community of Weingarten (Baden) was temporarily considered . In October 1966, however, the Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs Hahn declared Blankenloch to be the intended and - after a visit to the property by his representatives and the approval of the municipalities and the high school authorities - also the decided building site, since Blankenloch, the largest of the three towns, would have the most school-goers. On July 14, 1970, it was confirmed that an agreement had been reached two days earlier.

In a decree dated June 29, 1973, the Ministry of Culture approved the establishment of a grammar school and a secondary school. As early as the 1973/74 school year, classes at the Erich-Kästner-Realschule began in the Pestalozzi Primary and Secondary School and one year later, in August 1974, at the Thomas-Mann-Gymnasium, which was housed in the same building.

During the provisional housing, an agreement was reached with the architect Hartloff on the structural planning, which was to be implemented in three steps. As a result of the downturn in the economy and falling birth rates, the originally more generous planning concept was changed significantly and, after a competition was advertised, the construction work was finally entrusted to the Brettel-Architekten-Collectiv from Karlsruhe.

On July 5, 1976, the shell of the education center began, and the first phase of construction was completed just thirteen months later. The official school operation of the Thomas-Mann-Gymnasium began in the school year 1977/78 with 412 pupils in the three-class classes 5 to 8. The Stutensee Education Center was inaugurated in September of the same year.

In the short construction period of just over a year, a new phase of construction was completed, and after the Ministry of Culture had approved the expansion of the grammar school to include the upper level, the last obstacle was removed. The move into the new rooms of the education center took place on September 6, 1979, the day of the inauguration was November 23, 1979.
