Thomas Atzersen , also Assersen , (* late 15th century probably in Windeby ; † August 3, 1553 in Flensburg ) was a pastor.

Live and act

Thomas Atzersen worked as a pastor in Steinberg from around 1502 . He joined the Lutheran Reformation and remained as a Lutheran pastor in Steinberg until 1552. He then acquired a place in the Flensburg Hospital of the Holy Spirit, where he lived for another year.

Atzersen was evidently on friendly terms with Provost Nicolaus Johannis and the learned Flensburg deacon Hermann Buttius. He had a library which, together with documents from Lütke's name , became the library of the old grammar school in Flensburg . He also left a foundation to which 40 additional bequests were added over time. This gave rise to the so-called "Atzersensche Foundation", which was administered by the Flensburg Council or Magistrate. The interest earned on the property went to scholarships for theology studies, dowry assistance for poor maids and help for the poor. She also maintained the Klöckner poor house on Marienstraße in Flensburg, which was later demolished.

During the inflation of 1923 , the foundation lost a large fortune. A year later, due to legal changes, it had to merge with other foundations.
