Thomas Becker (cultural scientist)

Thomas Becker (born March 6, 1960 ) is a German cultural scientist and philosopher .

Life

Thomas Becker studied philosophy and art history in Tübingen and Berlin. From 1991 to 1993 he was a lecturer in philosophy and German at the École normal supérieure Fontenay / St. Cloud near Paris. He was born in 1994 with the work The Hegemony of Modernity. Doctorate in philosophy at the Free University of Berlin on the redefinition of political romanticism in the natural law of Kant and Hegel . He was then a fellow of the DAAD and then the DFG with the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu in Paris. In 2004 he qualified as a professor at the Chair of Cultural History at the Humboldt University in Berlin with the thesis Racism of Intelligence. On the genealogy of biosocial knowledge in the 19th century . From 2007 to 2010 he worked in the Collaborative Research Center “Aesthetic Experience in the Sign of the Dissolution of the Boundaries of the Arts” at Freie Universität Berlin. Since 2012 he has been a substitute professor for aesthetics and theory of contemporary art at the Braunschweig University of Art .

His main research interests include cultural history and theory , media history and theory , field sociology, aesthetics and the sociology of science .
