family

The Dacre family belonged to the Anglo-Norman aristocracy and had been represented on the royal council and in the House of Lords since the 14th century. life and career

Since he was still a minor when his father died in 1399, he inherited the right to his land and the seat in the House of Lords , but could not take possession of either. After he had reached the age of majority on November 10, 1408, he received power of disposal over his father's lands and on December 1, 1412 a writ of summons and was officially 6th Baron Dacre. In the House of Lords he then sat until May 26, 1455. During this time he was one of the 13 relatives of Ralph, Earl of Westmorland , who sat together in the House of Lords.

He was named Chief Forrester of Inglewood Forrest on February 26, 1420, and again on November 10, 1420.

He married Philippa, daughter of Ralph Neville , Earl of Westmorland. He died on January 5, 1457 and was then buried in Lanercost Priory . Since he had no living sons and grandchildren, his granddaughter Joan Dacre, daughter of Sir Thomas Dacre, followed him as de iure 7th Baroness Dacre.
