Thomas Eckelmann

Thomas Eckelmann is a German actor and voice actor who is known to a wide audience primarily as the German voice of Winnetou ( Pierre Brice ).

Life

Eckelmann worked as a theater actor in various Berlin theaters such as the Forum Theater and the Berlin Theater. Occasionally he also took on roles in film and television productions such as in Egon Monk's east-west drama Preis der Freiheit and in the Edgar Wallace crime thriller Der Zinker as well as in television series such as Jedermannstrasse 11 .

However, Eckelmann became known to a wide audience through his work as a speaker for radio and film dubbing . For a few years he was the German regular speaker of Pierre Brice, for whom he replaced Christian Wolff in Winnetou Part 2 . He also spoke Brice in six other Karl May film adaptations - Under Vultures , The Oil Prince , Winnetou 3rd Part , Old Surehand 1st Part , Winnetou and the half-blood Apanatschi , Winnetou and Shatterhand in the Valley of the Dead - as well as in the Western Hell from Manitoba . He also lent his voice to numerous other internationally known actors such as Richard Benjamin in Catch-22 - The Bad Trick , Dean Jones in Captain Blackbeard's Spuk-Kaschemme , Richard Chamberlain in Character Assassination , Russ Tamblyn in West Side Story and Steve McQueen in Nevada Smith .

At the beginning of the 1970s Eckelmann retired from the profession and moved to India, where he built a new life. Since then, 1972 has been incorrectly reported in various sources as the alleged date of death. Since 2006 he has been living in Berlin again.
