Thomas Hertel (agricultural economist)

Thomas Warren Hertel (* 1953 ) is an American agricultural economist . He is a professor at Purdue University .

Life

Hertel studied economics ( BA , 1976) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . This was followed by a Masters at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and a Ph.D. (1983) at Cornell University . He has been at Purdue University since 1983.

Hertel's research areas are the effects of global trade and environmental policy . He has done extensive research on the effects of multilateral trade agreements , including on poverty . He is also concerned with the consequences of energy and climate policy for global land use and poverty.
