L. Alan Winters

Leonard Alan Winters (born April 8, 1950 ) is a British economist . He is Professor at the University of Sussex and Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research and the Institute for the Future of Work .

Life

Winters studied economics and statistics at the University of Bristol ( B.Sc. , 1971). He continued his studies at the University of Cambridge , where he received his doctorate in 1979. From 1980 to 1985 he was a lecturer at the University of Bristol, but from 1983 to 1985 he worked at the World Bank . From 1986 to 1990 he was a professor at Bangor University and from 1990 to 1994 at the University of Birmingham . From 1994 to 1999 he was with the World Bank and since 1999 he has been a professor at the University of Sussex. From 2004 to 2007 he was Director of Development at the World Bank.

Winters is married and has two children.

Winter is one of the world's leading experts in empirical and policy analysis of foreign trade and development. He also works on migration and talent drain . He has published over 200 articles and 30 books. Winters has advised the OECD , the Department for International Development , the Commonwealth Secretariat , the European Commission , the European Parliament , UNCTAD , the WTO , and the Inter-American Development Bank , among others .
