Thomas Edward "Ted" Hibberd (born April 22, 1926 in Ottawa , Ontario ; † May 10, 2017 ibid) was a Canadian ice hockey player . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 , he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

Ted Hibberd began his career as a hockey player in his hometown, where he was active from 1942 to 1948 in the junior division for the Ottawa New Edinburghs, Ottawa St. Pats, Ottawa Montagnards and Hull Volants. In the senior division, he played for the Ottawa New Edinburgh, Ottawa Montagnards, the Ottawa Navy Bluejackets from the Ottawa National Defense Hockey League and the Ottawa Senators. He was then recruited by the RCAF Flyers, with whom he represented Canada at the 1948 Winter Olympics. Since Hibberd was not a member of the military at the time, he was briefly admitted to the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Aircraftsman, the lowest rank of the Air Force . After the Winter Games, he spent three years with the RCAF Flyers before ending his career.

International

For Canada , Hibberd took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , where he and his team won the gold medal. In eight games he scored three goals and four assists.
