Thomas Horky

Thomas Horky (* 1965 ) is a German sports scientist .

Life

Horky studied sports science , journalism and linguistics from 1986 to 1993 , before completing his studies he started a traineeship at the German Press Agency (DPA), which he finished in 1994. Between 1994 and 1997 he was a research assistant in the sports science department at the University of Hamburg . In 2001 his doctoral thesis (subject: "The staging of sport in mass communication: theoretical foundations and analysis of media reporting") was accepted at the University of Hamburg. He also worked scientifically at the Hamburg Institute for Sports Journalism as well as in Leipzig, Lüneburg and at the Hamburger Medienakademie AG. In 2007 and 2008, Horky was employed at the German Sport University in Cologne as a teacher at the Institute for Sports Journalism.

In 2009 he took up a professorship in journalism at the Macromedia University in Hamburg. In the spring of 2018 he was at Indiana University in the United States , where he was a visiting professor and offered courses on sports and the media in Europe, the media sport of soccer, and the importance of major soccer tournaments for the European media.

The focus of Horky's academic work includes sports journalism, the relationship between sports journalism and entertainment, and the area of ​​“media sports and staging”. He is co-editor of the book series "Sportkommunikation".
