Thomas Jöbstl (horn player)

Thomas Jöbstl (born January 5, 1978 in Wolfsberg , Carinthia) is an Austrian horn player and university lecturer.

Life

At the age of eight, Jöbstl had his first lessons on the horn at the Wolfsberg Music School with Franz Gönitzer. From 1992 he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Roland Berger and made his debut in 1995 as a soloist in the Great Hall of the Wiener Musikverein . In 1996 he gave a solo concert at the "Kyoto International Music Students Festival" in Japan .

In 1997 he graduated from the Musikgymnasium in Vienna and in the same year became 1st horn player at the Vienna Volksoper . Jöbstl blows the Wienerhorn . He also plays as a substitute with the Vienna Philharmonic and is a member of the chamber music ensemble "Wiener Virtuosen". In 2000 he completed his horn studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with the title "Magister artitum". From 2000 to 2006 he is a lecturer at the University of Music in Vienna as assistant to Roland Berger's horn class.

Since 2001 horn player in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera. Member of the Vienna Philharmonic since 2004.

Since October 2006 he has succeeded Roland Berger as Professor of Horn at the Vienna University of Music.
