Thomas Jüstel (* 1968 in Witten ) is a German chemist and professor at the Münster University of Applied Sciences in the chemical engineering department .

Jüstel studied chemistry at the Ruhr University in Bochum, where he completed his diploma thesis in 1992 at the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry I in Karl Wieghardt's group . He then worked there on his dissertation on the synthesis, structure and electronic configuration of dinuclear, [mi] -nitrido-bridged iron and ruthenium complexes , which he completed in 1995 with the disputation. He then took up a post- doctoral position at the Max Planck Institute for Radiation Chemistry in Mülheim . From the end of 1995 Jüstel worked in the Philips research laboratories in Aachen in the areas of luminescence and electron emission as well as nano-materials and devices .

Since 2004 he has been professor for inorganic chemistry and materials science at the University of Applied Sciences in Münster. His main research interests are luminescence materials and photochemistry . Jüstel cooperates in numerous research projects with companies from the chemical and electrical engineering industries. He is Vice President at the German Academy for Photobiology and Phototechnology (DAfP) for the faculty of photochemistry and phototechnology. He is also on the Advisory Board for the Phosphor Global Summit, which takes place annually in the USA . He also holds regular seminars for the Society of German Chemists (GDCh) on the subject of inorganic phosphors .
