Thomas Mark Németh

Thomas Mark Németh (* 1974 in Vienna ) is an Austrian priest and theologian.

Life

From 1992 to 1999 he studied Catholic theology and law at the University of Vienna . From 2000 to 2004 he completed a doctoral degree at the University of Vienna, dissertation: The synodal activity of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church since the "Wende" (1990-2002), doctorate to Dr. iur. and Doctor theologiae . From 2003 to 2005 he was a research assistant in the FWF project Orthodox Canonists and Politicians from the Danube Monarchy . From 2005 to 2009 he was a lawyer at the episcopal diocesan court in Eisenstadt. From 2005 to 2019 he was a representative for Eastern Church history and ecumenical theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Würzburg . From 2009 to 2019 he was director of the Eastern Church Institute in Würzburg . He has been a deacon of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church since 2014 and a priest since 2017 . After completing his habilitation in 2013 at the University of Vienna for the subject of theology and history of the Christian East, he has been teaching as Professor of Theology of the Christian East at the Institute for Historical Theology at the University of Vienna since October 2019

His main research interests are the history of the Eastern Churches in Austria and Central / Eastern Europe, the concept of tradition and reception in the Eastern Churches, liturgy and art in Byzantine churches, theology and law of the Eastern Catholic Churches and churches and religion in Ukraine.
