Thomas Rupert Phillips

Thomas Rupert Phillips (* in Mexico ; † 1936 in Mexico) was an English football player and coach and a founding member of the Reforma Athletic Club . TR Phillips was also a businessman of an English family dynasty in Mexico.

Phillips family

Phillips was a grandson of Thomas Phillips, who emigrated to Mexico in 1820 and worked for a company founded by the British in 1824 for a long time. After his son Charles Octavious Phillips was accepted as a partner in 1873, the name Phillips was integrated into the company name.

Phillips joined the company, which is still called Watson Phillips & Company , after it moved its domicile from Veracruz to Mexico City in 1893 . With the new location, the company, which previously specialized in the import of textiles from Manchester and the export of Mexican silver coins, developed under his aegis into a flourishing insurance agency.

After Phillips' death, his son Charles HE Phillips continued his father's life's work. He joined Watson Phillips & Company as a partner and became President of the Reforma Athletic Club, Club Británico and the Mexican Insurance Association.

Sporting commitment

In 1894 Thomas Rupert Phillips was one of the founders of the English sports and social association Reforma Athletic Club, based in Mexico City. Phillips made particular merits in the football department founded by his compatriot Percy Clifford , which he led to a total of six championship titles between 1906 and 1912: the first three as player-coach and the following three as external coach. During his active playing career, which he let end in 1909, he worked as a striker .
