Thomas Schwinn

Thomas Schwinn (* 1959 in Heidelberg ) is a German sociologist and professor of general sociology at the University of Heidelberg .

Life

Schwinn studied sociology and political science at the University of Heidelberg from 1981 to 1987. In 1992 he received his doctorate there, and in 1999 he also completed his habilitation there. In 2003 he was appointed professor at the Catholic University of Eichstätt .

In 2008 Heidelberg University appointed him to succeed Professor Wolfgang Schluchter (professorship for general sociology with a focus on sociological theory). Since 2010 he has been co-editor of the Cologne journal for sociology and social psychology . In 2014 he was elected a full member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences .
