Thomas Winnington ( December 31, 1696 - April 23, 1746 ) was a British politician.

Life

Thomas Winnington was the second eldest son of Salwey Winnington and his wife Anne, a daughter of Thomas Foley. He attended Westminster School and Christ Church College at the University of Oxford . In 1714 he was accepted into the Middle Temple .

When his uncle Edward Jeffreys died in 1725, Winnington took over his vacant seat in the House of Commons in 1726 and represented the constituency of Droitwich there until 1741. Winnington was also Lord of the Admiralty from 1730 to 1736 , Lord of the Treasury from 1736 to 1741 and became a member of the Privy Council in 1741 . In the general election in 1741 Winnington decided to run in the constituency of Worcester. He represented this until his death. At the same time he was Cofferer of the Household from 1741 to 1743 , and Paymaster General of the Forces from 1743 until his death .

On August 6, 1719 he married Love Reade († June 25, 1745), the daughter of James Reade, 2nd Baronet. The only child resulting from this marriage died shortly after birth in 1720.
