The Thomaskirche is a Protestant church in Darmstadt .

The church

In 1969 the sculptor Fritz Schwarzbeck designed a bronze cross and two matching candle holders for the church hall . For the cloister-like courtyard of the community center Fritz Schwarz Beck in 1975, three bronze reliefs on the life of the Apostle Thomas and a fountain made of sandstone designed.

In 1986, the five glass windows in the church hall, based on designs by Helmut Lander , were installed.

In 1993 a bell carrier with a tower cross was erected in front of the community center.

The textile wall hanging in the choir of the church hall was designed by Barbara Lemelsen in 1996.

The altar cover and paraments , based on designs by Margarethe Keith, were made by the textile workshop of the Elisabethenstift Darmstadt in 2000.

The community

The Thomas parish was established in 1961 from the previous eastern district of the Martins parish and received its own parish center, the church hall of which is used for church services and other parish activities. A kindergarten group was founded in the community center in 1963 as an institution of the Thomas community.

In 1972 a separate building for childcare for the Thomas parish was completed.

The main focuses of the community work are:

  • Work with young families.
  • Cooperation with the elderly center on the Rosenhöhe.
  • Social work in the “Schwarzer Weg” senior center.
