The Thompson-Boling Arena (also known as The Summitt ) is a multi-purpose arena on the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville, Tennessee .
history
The foundation stone for the arena was laid on November 2, 1983. The hall was opened on December 3, 1987. It was named after B. Ray Thompson and the University President Dr. Named Edward J. Boling.
The hall has been the largest arena in the southeastern United States of America since it opened. Up to 2007 the hall held 24,535 visitors, since the renovation it offers 21,678 seats. At concerts, the hall can usually accommodate 25,000 people. The hall construction cost 40 million US dollars . The hall's architect was GSCD, Inc. Architects, while Ross H. Bryan Engineers Inc. took care of the structure and Ray Bell & Associates was the general designer of the arena. The arena has a volume of 480,000 cubic meters .

The arena is primarily used for basketball competitions such as the Southeastern Conference and is the home of three teams, Tennessee Volunteers, Tennessee Lady Vols, and Tennessee Lady Vols ( volleyball ). The arena is also a popular venue for concerts.
