Thotnefer (also more rarely Thotmes ) was the royal scribe and head of the treasury under the ancient Egyptian kings Thutmose III. and Amenophis II. He is best known from his two grave complexes in Thebes-West ( TT80 and TT104 ). His wife was the mistress of the Tachat house , another wife was perhaps Merit, who is always referred to as his sister . This may indicate that she was a biological sister, a close relative, or another consort. Other family members are not known with certainty.

It is uncertain in which of his two graves Thotnefer was buried. Tombs, which consist of two parts, are well documented for high officials at this time . One of the complexes usually served as a cult complex (burial chapel), the other as a burial site. In the case of Thotnefer, however, both facilities also have burial rooms. Perhaps the underground burial chambers , at least in one of the chapels, were only created after the death of Thotnefer when the facility was reused. However, since both graves are heavily robbed, no decision on the place of Thotnefer's burial is possible for the time being.
