Three Peaks Walk

The Three Peaks Walk is a circular walk in northern England that leads over the three mountains, Pen-y-ghent , Whernside and Ingleborough , also known as the Yorkshire Three Peaks .

The route is based on the walking guide Walks in Limestone Country by Alfred Wainwright and offers several variants with total lengths between 37.5 km and 42 km with a total of 1600 m ascent and descent.

Traditionally, the hike begins and ends in Horton in Ribblesdale , with other points on the route also easily accessible and therefore suitable as starting points.

Three Peaks Challenge

This particular challenge for mountain hikers is to cover the 37.5 km route in a maximum of 12 hours. The youngest “three-peaker” is Luca Dodgson, who in 2015 at the age of seven walked the path in 11 hours and 50 minutes.

Three Peaks Race

The Three Peaks Race is held every year at the end of April . The 37 km route begins and ends in Horton in Ribblesdale. In 1996 Andy Peace set an unbroken record on the current route with 2:46:03. Jeff Norman needed the shortest time ever in the Three Peaks Race 1974 with 2:29:53, but the official route was shorter at that time. Women have been taking part in the race since 1979, the record here has been held by the Czech Anna Pichrtova since 2008 with 3:14:43.

Three Peaks Cyclo-Cross

This bike race, which was held in 1961, has been running for 61 km over the three mountains since 1994 in a lap that begins in Helwith Bridge 3 km south of Horton in Ribblesdale. The fastest of the drivers cover the route in under three hours.
