Horton in Ribblesdale is a place with 498 inhabitants (2001) in North Yorkshire in the Yorkshire Dales .

Historically, the place was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire and the parish church of St Oswald dates back to the 12th century. The monasteries of Jervaulx Abbey and Fountains Abbey argued for a long time about the belonging of the place to their property until the dispute was decided in 1315 by Edward II in favor of Jervaulx Abbey. After the monasteries were dissolved during the Reformation, ownership of the lands passed to the Earl of Lennox . Then the land ownership was taken over by various groups of landowners.

The place, which has a train station on the Settle-Carlise-Railway , is now known as a starting point for hikes and entry into the numerous caves in the region. The place is located west of Pen-y-ghent and is the traditional starting point for the Three Peaks Walk .
