Change of throne

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A change of throne means that a previous power holder abdicates his office and thus elevates another person (example from the monarchy) to this office.

An example of this are the events that took place in Austria in 1848 : "On the initiative of Field Marshal Lieutenant Felix Fürst zu Schwarzenberg, Ferdinand abdicated and left the throne to his 18-year-old nephew Joseph, who assumed the emperor name Franz Joseph I. "

In the Dutch royal family , with the announced resignation of Queen Beatrix at the end of April in favor of Crown Prince Willem Alexander, the head of state took office for the third time in a row by changing the throne.
