Thunder Road in Carowinds ( Charlotte , North Carolina , USA ) was a racing - wooden roller coaster manufacturer's Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters , opened the 1976th It was closed on July 26, 2015. The design was based on the Rebel Yell roller coaster in Kings Dominion . The train crossed the North Carolina- South Carolina border , starting in South Carolina.
It was named and themed after the film Thunder Road . At the opening were also Bobby Allison and David Pearson of NASCAR attendance.
For the construction of the 2 × 1164 m long routes, over 1200 m³ of wood, 60–70 tons of nails, bolts and rails, and 21 m³ of paint were required.
Trains
Originally Thunder Road trains owned the Jetstream from Riverview Park in Chicago , where a train to a vehicle of a sheriff and a train to a vehicle of a bandit were discussed; matching the film. In 1980 they were replaced by new trains from the manufacturer Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters. In 1995 a train was rotated to go backwards on the track, but was rotated again in 2008 to go forward again.
