Thurber Prize for American Humor
The Thurber Prize for American Humor is an award that has been given to American humorists and satirists since 1997 . It is considered the most prestigious humor award in the country.
The Thurber Prize is endowed with $ 5,000. It is named after James Thurber (1894–1961), who worked as a cartoonist and writer for the New Yorker for a long time . The jury is made up of three well-known journalists and authors. The prize is awarded by Thurber House in Columbus (Ohio) , which is dedicated to maintaining the memory of James Thurber and promoting literature.
From 1997 to 2001 the prize was awarded every two years; annually since 2004. Publications that appeared in the USA in the previous year can be nominated.
