Thusfall

As THUS refers to a narrowing of Eger northwest of Röslau . Often the name is also used for the surrounding area; that's the name of the forest in this area, Thuswald . The district Thusmühle is located near Thus .

history

The Thusmühle was mentioned early in 1652, when Philipp von Waldenfels acquired the Oberröslau manor and with it Düßel Mühlstet . A settlement that later took its name formed around this mill. The mill was mentioned again in 1787 as a "fulling mill with two grinding passages and one cutting pass". In 1859 a pitch hut was named; In 1893 Oskar Böttcher asked the municipality of Oberröslau for permission to build a cardboard factory in Thuswald. Other sources speak of the construction of the cardboard factory as early as 1886, or 1834 in connection with the creation of a moat. The Thusmühle has not been operated since 1972.

Thusfall

The water that the cardboard factory needed was obtained from the Eger. To do this, a canal was dug from the Eger, below what is now the Weißenstadt district of Franconia, to the factory. 250 meters west of the production facility is the overflow, the Thusfall , over which the water falls 28 meters deep over granite rocks back into the Eger. In 1923 and 1924 Thusfall became a natural stage on which the operetta Die Winzerliesel was performed. Since 1928, the Thusfest has been celebrated every year on Whitsunday with music and catering. In the meantime, the waterfall is only switched on on this day.
