Thorns

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Thynen or Thynier ( old Gr . Θυνοί = Thynier ) were a Thracian tribe in ancient Thrace and Bithynia .

Their main settlement area was in the area around Salmydessos and on the river Strymon . They migrated in the 8th century BC. Chr. To Asia Minor , where they Bithynia founded. The first Greek settlers used the word Thyni ("Huns") to describe the tribes found in this area. The meaning of her name is unclear. One possible explanation is that the name of Altgr. θύννος (= tuna ) was derived, as there were rich tuna deposits both in their original area and on the Bosporus .
