Tiefländer is a German hard cheese variety with a protected geographical designation of origin .

It is produced in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the former districts of Malchin , Grimmen , Altentreptow , Teterow , Demmin , Güstrow and Waren districts . Only milk from the local producers is used for production.

The cheese is produced in two typical forms, as a square and a round cheese, weighing between 6 and 15 kilograms. It is characterized by sparse to plentiful, pea to cherry-sized, more or less evenly distributed holes.
