Tiernahrung Deuerer is a German family company based in Bretten ( Baden-Württemberg ). It emerged from a restaurant with a small butcher's shop and is now one of the market leaders in the pet food industry .

history

In 1959 Helmut Deuerer took over the restaurant Zum Deutschen Kaiser. Two years later he and his wife opened the butcher's shop of the same name. In the course of time, more shops were added.

In 1979 the first factory began selling meat products across Germany. It was not until 1988 that the range was expanded to include dog and cat food.

In the course of time, the company expanded its range significantly and brought innovations to the market.

The company has remained loyal to its home location in Bretten to this day. However, investments were also made in other locations in the immediate vicinity. In addition, large parts of Vitakraft were taken over in 2013 .

Special events

In June 2012 there was a major fire in several Deuerer warehouses in the industrial area of Gondelsheim . There was property damage in the amount of around 2.5 million euros.

In May 2014, a raid took place in the company buildings in Bretten and Gondelsheim. The police moved in with around 80 people to investigate suspected violations of working hours. The company had often come under fire for having obtained a large part of its workforce from temporary employment agencies, often from abroad. As a result of the raid, Tiernahrung Deuerer terminated the controversial contracts of Hungarian temporary workers only about two months later. The investigations against the company and its owners were discontinued after two years due to a lack of suspicion.
