The Vitakraft pet care GmbH & Co. KG is one of the world's biggest brand owners of the pet industry , based in Bremen , Germany.
In addition to Germany, the company is represented in 20 other countries in Europe , Asia and America . Around 1.2 million Vitakraft products for feeding and keeping pets are produced and sold worldwide every day.
history
In 1837 Heinrich Wührmann opened a small animal feed store in Heiligenrode near Bremen and is therefore considered to be the cornerstone of the company. Since then, the business has been passed on within the Wührmann family and expanded from generation to generation. Heino Wührmann took over the company in the fourth generation in 1929. For the first time, he laid the foundations for a modern, industrialized form of pet food production and made Vitakraft a brand that quickly became known. In 1937 the company headquarters moved to Bremen.
The Second World War interrupted the positive development for the time being, because then both the destroyed operating facilities and the raw material and sales markets first had to be rebuilt. The gradual development of the political and economic unity of Europe created a good opportunity and prerequisite for the family company Vitakraft to expand throughout Europe. Subsidiaries in the most important European markets were founded.
In 2013 the founding family withdrew from the operative business and Vitakraft became part of the Tiernahrung Deuerer group .
Products
The Vitakraft product range includes staple feed and snacks as well as supplies for the care and keeping of pets. In total, the company offers around 2,000 items for birds , rodents , dogs and cats under the Vitakraft umbrella brand . The Vitakraft range also includes products for the animal groups fish , reptiles , hedgehogs and ferrets . Vitakraft products are available from many retail chains as well as from pet shops and online shops.
