Heiligenrode has been part of the municipality of Stuhr ( district of Diepholz , Lower Saxony ) since it was incorporated in 1974 .

geography

Heiligenrode is part of the municipality of Stuhr and is located on the northern edge of the Wildeshauser Geest nature reserve and approx. 15 km south of the Hanseatic city of Bremen.

Heiligenrode is located on the Klosterbach and stands out due to its idyllic location. The rural districts Eggese, Bürstel and Siek belong to Heiligenrode . In Siek there is a recreation area with weekend houses, which is frequented by people from Bremen on weekends.

What was initially a rural settlement has now become a larger district with various residential areas and only a few farms.

Heiligenrode is in the immediate vicinity of the A 1 (Stuhrer Dreieck) and is bordered by the federal highway 322 in the north .  The B 439 leads through the village - branching off the B 322 and joining the B 51 .

history

Heiligenrode was created by founding a monastery in the middle of a wooded landscape and has certainly been a rural place around the monastery when it came into being.

The well-preserved monastery church , the monastery mill, the monastery pond and the mill pond in the town center are witnesses of a formerly eventful past of Heiligenrode, which began over 800 years ago. In 1182 a Benedictine monastery was founded by knight Friedrich von Mackenstedt, a servant of the Archbishop of Bremen . Due to the construction of the monastery, an infrastructure with numerous farm buildings and houses was created. Forests were cleared, swamps were drained - this is where the name comes from: Heiligenrode. The economic influence grew through donations from noblemen, princes and farmers. After Reformation the nuns convent in a Damenstift converted. In the further course of history, the Thirty Years War brought the downfall of the once rich monastery, so that the buildings fell into disrepair.

On August 1, 1972, part of the municipality of Kirchseelte, which had about 200 inhabitants at the time, was re-congregated to Heiligenrode. Due to the community reform on March 1, 1974, Heiligenrode became part of the community of Stuhr.
