course

The source of the Klosterbach is in the Geestmoor north of Scholen in the municipality of Schwaförden ; The Geestmoor nature reserve was expanded in 2009 to include the upper reaches of the Klosterbach to form the Geestmoor-Klosterbachtal nature reserve . In the southern part of the nature reserve, the Geestmoor, there is a watershed . While the Klosterbach flows in a northerly direction to the Ochtum, the Kleine Aue rises from the same moor and flows south to the Große Aue .

From the Geestmoor, the Klosterbach flows in a northerly direction past Neuenkirchen and passes under the B 51 shortly before Bassum , where it also flows to the west . The brook follows the so-called "Klosterbachtal" from Bassum and flows east past Kirchseelte (integrated community of Harpstedt ) and west to Stuhr -Heiligenrode and east to Stuhr-Groß Mackenstedt, where it crosses under the B 322 . Little farther he crosses under the highway A1 and from Stuhr-Varrel (Tölkenbrück) of Klosterbach is Varreler Bäke called. Shortly after the confluence with the Pultern , the Klosterbach finally leaves the district of Diepholz and for the last 4 km represents the border between Bremen (districts of Huchting and Strom ) and Lower Saxony (city of Delmenhorst ). On this section, it crosses under the four-lane B 75 and the Bremen – Oldenburg railway line until it finally flows into the Ochtum as a left tributary .

Watermills

There are still watermills in Bassum, Stuhr-Heiligenrode and Stuhr-Varrel . They are testimony to the fact that water power from streams was once used to generate energy to operate grain mills .

Trivia

In the song "Delmenhorst" by the band Element of Crime , the lines of text "Behind Huchting is a ditch that is neither wide nor deep" and "Behind Huchting is a ditch that pours into Ochtum" appear in the chorus. This means the Klosterbach or the Varreler Bäke.
