Groß Mackenstedt is a district of the Stuhr municipality in the Diepholz district in Lower Saxony . About 3100 inhabitants live in the district.
geography
Groß Mackenstedt is located about 17 kilometers southwest of Bremen and is the westernmost part of the municipality of Stuhr.
Groß Mackenstedt is surrounded by meadows and the small creek Klosterbach flows past the village.
The district of Stelle is characterized by a local recreation area with campsites on Lake Steller and the landscape protection areas of Steller Heide and "Dünsener Bach". Part of the landscape protection area has been rededicated as an open-air area for dogs and is used intensively.

The name Groß Mackenstedt could go back to the locator Friedrich von Mackenstedt mentioned in 1171 in connection with Huchting .
Groß Mackenstedt is a village with a few agricultural farms, an old town center and extensive residential areas. Some farms still exist that have a 300-year tradition.
Due to the municipal reform of March 1, 1974, Groß Mackenstedt became part of the Stuhr municipality.

There are a number of individual houses and bungalows in spacious residential areas. In the middle of the village there is a war memorial in memory of the fallen and missing of the two world wars.

The A 1 motorway junction at the Stuhr motorway triangle and the central transport connections have resulted in commercial areas and various new housing developments since the 1980s. The branch of a supermarket chain, a multimedia specialty store, several large furniture stores and four branches of fast food chains have settled, so that there is a contrast between modern suburbs and rural areas.
The headquarters of the Alte Mackenstedter grain distillery is located in Groß Mackenstedt. It has been burning its own grain since 1750 and operates nationwide.

The Delmenhorst-Harpstedt railway, operated by the Delmenhorst-Harpstedter Eisenbahn GmbH (DHE), runs through Groß Mackenstedt and the district of Stelle. The route is used for freight traffic and regular special trips with historical vehicles ( Jan Harpstedt ). The stations Groß Mackenstedt and Stelle are stops here. The former train station facilities in Groß Mackenstedt are used by local businesses and as living space. The Groß Mackenstedt volunteer fire brigade also focuses on operations on federal motorway 1 .
