Tiger is a beer brand from Singapore . According to the company, Tiger was the country's first beer brand in 1932 and is now the largest Asian brand. The brand is owned by Asia Pacific Breweries Ltd.

history

The company Malayan Breweries Limited was founded in Singapore as a joint venture between Heineken and the conglomerate Fraser and Neave in 1931 and launched Tiger Beer in 1932. In 1990 the company was renamed Asia Pacific Breweries Ltd. renamed. Tiger beer has won a number of awards since 1939, including the gold medal of the American Brewers Association in the category “ Pilsener, European Brewing” and first place in the category “Flavor of lager beers” in a blind test by the Sunday Times in 1980. Today Tiger beer is brewed in eleven countries and is available in over 70 countries.

Heineken holds 42% of the shares in Asia Pacific Breweries. Currently (July 2012) the Dutch brewery group Heineken has offered 4.1 billion dollars to take over the shares of the conglomerate Fraser and Neave (40%). In the bidding competition the company Kindest Place, which currently owns 8.6% of APB and wants to take over part of the shares. The father-in-law of the owner of Kindest Place, the Thai billionaire Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi, has bought large stakes in Fraser and Neave through his companies in recent months.

Types of beer

Tiger beer is a light lager with 5% alcohol . In addition, a light beer called Tiger Crystal Lite with 4.1% alcohol, which was designed for the market in China , has been sold since October 2004 . Since the end of 2013 there has also been a Tiger Radler with lemon flavor and only 2.0% alcohol.

The writer Anthony Burgess adopted the advertising slogan "Time for a tiger" for his novel of the same name from 1956. Asia Pacific Breweries Ltd. sponsors a number of sports teams and events in Europe, the US and Asia through Tiger Beer, especially soccer . Under the name Tiger Translate , the company finances art events, exhibitions and competitions aimed at promoting the exchange between Asia and the West .
