Tiger Hill (Darjeeling)

The Tiger Hill is a mountain top in West Bengal , India . It is located at Ghum , the highest station on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway . It is known for its shared panoramic view of Mount Everest and Kangchenjunga .

The summit is 7 miles from Darjeeling and can be reached either by jeep or on foot in approximately two hours through the Chowrasta, Alubari, Jorebangla tea plantations and the climb to the summit.

Mount Everest (8848 m) can be seen from Tiger Hill. The Makalu (8481 m) is higher from, but this is an optical illusion, because it is closer to the Tiger Hill. Mount Everest is approximately 175 km as the crow flies from Tiger Hill.

On a clear day, one can see Klassenong in the south, as well as the Tista , Mahananda , Balason and Mechi . The Chumal Rhi in Tibet is about 105 km as the crow flies and looks like a round mass of snow over the Chola mountain range.
