Tiiu Aro

Tiiu Aro (born June 18, 1952 in Kingissepa , today Kuressaare) is an Estonian politician and doctor.

Life and Health Policy

Tiiu Aro graduated from Tartu State University in Medicine in 1976 . From 1986 to 1996 she worked as a doctor in the gynecological department of the Tartu University Hospital .

After regaining Estonian independence, she became politically active in the liberal Estonian coalition party ( Eesti Koonderakond ). From December 2, 1996 to March 17, 1997, Aro was Minister of Social Affairs in Prime Minister Tiit Vahi's cabinet . She then held the same office until March 25, 1999 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Mart Siimann .

From 1999 to 2009 Aro was the head of the Estonian Health Protection Agency. From January 1, 2010 to summer 2017, Aro was director of the Estonian Health Department.
