Tilman Schroeder (Alderman)

Tilman Schroeder (born March 12, 1645 in Aachen ; † March 1706 ibid) was a German lay judge and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

Tilman Schroeder was the son of the wine merchant Gerhard Schroeder and his wife Johanna Birmanns. He studied law and then took over the office of secretary at the Aachen jury. In 1683 he was accepted into the lay judges' chair and joined the star guild, the association of Aachen lay judges. Between 1684 and 1693 Schroeder was elected six times to the "Great Council", which was responsible, among other things, for general affairs and judged over life and death, and between 1695 and 1704 five times to the "Small Council" of the city of Aachen, which deals with the City and state sovereignty employed and formed the higher and appeal courts. In addition, in the meantime in 1696/97 and 1698/99 he won the elections for mayor of the city of Aachen.

In addition to these full-time activities, Schroeder joined the Sacrament Brotherhood of St. Foillan in 1687 and took over the honorary office of Christoffel in the royal county in 1696 and 1699 . In the last years of his life he served as church master at St. Foillan.

Schroeder died unmarried in March 1706 and was buried on March 21, according to the funeral notice of the responsible Alexians in Aachen .
