Use for snow-making systems

The reservoir Viderböden is a reservoir above Ischgl near the border of Switzerland that the snow making the slopes in the Silvretta Arena used. It was created in 2017 as a replacement for the abandoned Idalp reservoir , which was located in a landslide area, which is why the supervisory authorities revoked the operating license at the end of the 2016/17 winter season. A location as close as possible to the previous reservoir was chosen for the new reservoir in order to keep the effort for the adjustments to the lines of the snowmaking system as low as possible. The heart-shaped reservoir has a usable volume of 52,000 m². The sealing against the subsoil is made by a pond liner that lies on a drainage tile and is protected by a 15 to 20 cm thick bed of rubble lying on a protective tile . The lake was built in just three months because the short snow-free period in summer had to be used. The construction costs amounted to 4.5 million euros .
