Time / Bank

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Time / Bank is an art project initiated in 2009 by Julieta Aranda (* 1975 in Mexico City ) and Anton Vidokle (* 1965 in Moscow ).

The concept of Time / Bank is based on an idea by Josiah Warren , who ran the Cincinnati Time Store from 1827 to 1830 . Goods and services are traded for a fixed number of hours invested. As a safeguard, banknotes are issued for a certain period of time. Paul Glover founded the first successful contemporary time bank in 1991 . The "Ithaka Hours" were accepted as a means of payment by local businesses.

The Time / Bank installation during dOCUMENTA (13) consisted of the temporarily set up online platform: e-flux.com/timebank and several branches that were temporarily set up in various institutions. There transactions could be made, services accepted or offered. In 2011 Time / Bank was exhibited as an installation in Portikus Frankfurt.
