The Timmbrücke ( Latvian Timma tilts ) is a pedestrian bridge in the Latvian capital Riga .

It is located in Basteiberg Park east of Riga's old town and bridges the city canal . The footpath leads across it from the northeastern Rainis Boulevard ( Raiņa bulvāris ) to the southwestern Latvian National Opera on Aspasia Boulevard ( Aspazijas bulvāris ) .

The construction of the bridge goes back to a donation from the widow of the professor at the Riga Polytechnic Institute , Wilhelm von Timm . Von Timm had decreed that the bridge should be built on a direct route between the institute's buildings in the northeast and the theater building in the southwest. A design by the Windau- born engineer Iwan Kropiwjansky won a construction competition . A single arch steel bridge was created. The total cost was 16,594 rubles , of which 9,000 rubles came from the donation from Timms. The bridge was inaugurated at the beginning of 1900. A restoration took place in 1995.
