Act

Parallel to his artistic and literary work, Dillner has devoted himself to answering the question “What is art?” Since 2004 and published the essay “Art = [is equal]” in 2007, in which he attempted a clear definition and overarching formula for the term art. In 2012 he presented the art style he developed from this with the first book of the catalog series “Der Poetic Contineralism”.

The first personal exhibition under this title took place in 2012 at Casa Manuel Texeira Gomes in Portimão. This was followed by the exhibitions “Poetic Contineralism - Graphic Works” at the Museu de Alhandra, Vila Franca de Xira, 2012; “The Poetic Contineralism - New Ports” in the municipal gallery “The Tree House at the Old Harbor” in Wismar, 2013, and “The Poetic Contineralism - New Worlds” in the Museu de Portimão, 2015. Under the title “The Poetic Contineralism - Finds” Dillner's works were presented at the Museu Municipal Dr. José Formosinho (Lagos), followed by the exhibition “Poetic Contineralism - New Horizons” 2017 at the Centro Cultural de Lagos.

Dillner's work was recognized in publications by the city administrations of Lagos, Vila Franca de Xira, Wismar and Portimão as well as by the President of the German-Portuguese Society, Harald Heinke (preface to the book “Der Poetic Contineralism - Paintings and Poems”); by the head of the language department of the Goethe-Institut Lisbon, Dr. Dorothea Klenke-Gerdes (epilogue in the book “Timo Dillner. Não farás para ti imagem. You shouldn't make a picture”) and the Portuguese Ambassador in Berlin, HE Luís de Almeida Sampaio (preface to the book “Der Poetic Contineralism - New Worlds”) In 2016 the Ministry of Culture of the Portuguese Republic sponsored Dillner's film project about Heinrich the Navigator “Aufbeschworen / Vocado”, and in 2017 the painting “The Dream” was included in the permanent collection of the Lagos City Museum as part of the celebrations for the 87th anniversary.
