Parliamentary elections 2011

In the 2011 general election , Tin was selected as a candidate for the Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency alongside former Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong . After she was a member of the Ulu Pandan Single Member Constituency of the Young PAP for seven years , she was selected by the PAP as a candidate to address the “most unpredictable population group”, the first-time voters. On election day, the PAP won the Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency constituency with 56.65% of the vote, defeating the National Solidarity Party . Goh Chok Tong admitted after the election that Tin's negative public image was a factor in the party's poorer performance in these elections. On June 1, 2011, Tin announced that due to failure, she had resigned from her senior associate position at Ernst & Young , where she had worked for four years. After the resignation, you want to focus more on your work as a member of parliament.

When Tin was introduced as a candidate for parliament in 2011, it sparked major online antagonism. During the election campaign, Tin received negative attention due to her immaturity as a MP and it was also pointed out that her husband had opened the doors to politics for her through good political relations. When a photo popped up on her Facebook page posing with a gift from her husband from luxury brand Kate Spade New York , she was accused of ignorance and materialism. In addition, Tin was not taken seriously by the voters. When asked if there was a PAP guideline that she would change, she replied that there wasn't a specific one against which it was opposed. When asked what her greatest regret was, she replied that her parents who were still alive did not bring her to Universal Studios Singapore.

As the negative comments about Tin's person on the Internet increased, she defended Goh Chok Tong in the press. He said that he accepted Tin because he doesn't think she is a weak candidate. He rejected the criticism of her person. He also mentioned that the few positive comments were written from too superficial a point of view. Goh still believed that Tin would work very hard to reach out to the young and the elderly. He wants her to do more to help the elderly. He concluded by saying that Tin will be a good MP in due course.

Nicole Seah of the National Solidarity Party lodged a complaint against Tin with the Elections Department for failing to observe the 24-hour cooling off period before the election and for illegally promoting her party on election day. Under the general election law in Singapore, advertising is prohibited on election day and rest day. Failure to comply can result in a fine or a prison sentence or both. Tin said that an employee was logged into her Facebook account and accidentally sent the message that she believed she was on her account. In the end, it turned out that Nicole Seah had committed a similar offense. The police warned Tin and Seah, and no further prosecution followed.
