Tin Rherho

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Southwest of Tamanrasset in Algeria is the edge of the Tassili Tin Rherho , a narrow tableau only 20 to 30 km wide with a north-south extension of about 120 km, exactly along the 4th degree of longitude. It is located in a lonely desert landscape, surrounded by extensive dune fields and eroded stone formations. The sandstone sediments of the Tassili regions are particularly bizarre and filigree in the Tin Rherho. The edge of the tableau can be climbed with the off-road vehicle in some flatter places. Blown dunes combine the rock bridges, grottos, towers and mushroom rocks to form an impressive landscape. There are rock art in the area , such as petroglyphs . The prehistoric engravings, rock paintings, stone settings and tombs are hardly known and not even literarily recorded. Hardly anyone can be found in this region.

Historical objects such as mortars , arrowheads , axes, but also countless barrows and natural rock paintings show settlement as early as the Stone Age . Mouflons and gazelles have a home here. Although nomads are at home in this area, they always move on because wells are a rarity.

To the west is the Tim Missaou with its mushroom-shaped rock towers.
