Tim Missaou

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tim Missaou (also Tassili Tim Missaou ) is a sandstone plateau in Algeria . It is about 270 km west-southwest of Tamanrasset and south of the 22nd parallel. In the course of millions of years the area was more or less dissolved by weathering; What remains are towers and castle-like rocks that form impressive large landscapes . Many rock formations are reminiscent of mushrooms. In between are dunes. Often the sand is blown so high that you can walk to the top of the rocks via sand ramps.

It's a very lonely area. The next settlement is Tamanrasset and there are few nomads in this region due to the massive lack of water and food for animals. Nevertheless, there is a well-known fountain in the Tim Missaou. There is a military station in the vicinity.

To the east is the Tin Rherho with its eroded rock towers and rock art , such as petroglyphs .
