Tinerfe , called El Grande in Spanish , was a mencey (king) of the Guanches on the Canary Island of Tenerife .

He was the son of Menceyen Sunta , lived in the 14th century and ruled over the entire island from Adeje . After his death, the island was divided into nine menceyatos among his nine sons and later conquered by the Spanish.

According to various historians, the name Tenerife is derived from Tinerfe.
