Tingacrossur

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tingakrossur was a Faroese weekly newspaper that appeared from 1901 to 1990.

history

The first edition of the newspaper under the direction of Kristin í Geil appeared on January 1, 1901. Initially written mainly in Danish , it changed more and more to the Faroese language and became the mouthpiece of supporters of self-government in the Faroe Islands. After the party was formed, the newspaper became the Sjálvstýrisflokkurin's party organ .

The weekly newspaper also offered young Faroese writers and poets the opportunity to bring their works to a larger audience. The writer Rasmus Rasmussen ( Regin í Líð ) was one of those who regularly published short stories in Tingakrossur in the early years.

After the newspaper had not appeared for a few years from 1955 to 1959, its publication was finally stopped a good 30 years later, in 1990, at the beginning of a severe economic crisis in the Faroe Islands.

  • Louis Zachariasen , chairman of the Sjálvstýrisflokkurin, who was in charge from 1943 to 1954.
